No-TV Tuesday: Happy Birthday, Dad!
It's been a crazy week, and I just realized that I never wrote my No-TV Tuesday post... and it's a special one: Dad's birthday!
But before dinner at Benihana, I had to take care of a little dental work.
I went last week, and Dr. Handick found some minor decay in two spots. So I returned Tuesday and got Novocaine for just the second time in my entire life! I have really healthy teeth :)
The upper left part of my mouth was numb. My big, fat lip felt funny!
The appointment didn't take long, so I hit Winco for a couple items for this week's menu:
Then I sat in my car for a while, enjoying the warm afternoon and my book:
Brad arrived a few minutes early from work, so we walked over to Nordstrom Rack to look for shoe deals. I tried these on and almost hurt myself!!
Absolutely ridiculous.
Finally, dinner! (And my mouth was almost back to normal)
Brad and I split the special: Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp for two. Chicken for him, shrimp for me.
The birthday boy... celebrating the big 5-8:

I love how this picture turned out:

The parents:
The sister:

Free birthday ice cream:
Mom had to run to her band rehearsal, but Eryn and Dad came over to watch The Double on our big screen. Oh, and to eat strawberries on angel food cake, Dad's fav!
Happy Birthday, Dad!!! :)

I am grateful for a dad willing to eat Thai food (which he hates) to cheer me up.
I am grateful for family willing to listen to me vent.
I am grateful for Gail M.
I am grateful for a husband willing to bring me a bra at work.

New pre-run plan
Among the excitement of the weekend was a long run of 8 miles. My half is coming up next month, and I'm nearing my peak mileage - yippee!
I did not do a good job preparing for my hard exercise. I tired my legs cross-country skiing Saturday and then stuffed myself silly at Easter dinner. Then I took an afternoon nap.
While laying in my cozy bed with sunshine streaming through the window, I had my usual internal debate about whether I could postpone the run. But I didn't want to mess up my week's workout schedule, plus I'd eaten all that food with the promise that "I'll be running this afternoon":

So I dragged my lazy butt out of bed, dressed appropriately for the warm evening and set out on a new route. Brad went in a different direction to run 10 miles. I fully anticipated a horrible, slow run with a heavy tummy and side aches.
Surprisingly, I kept the pace steady, around a 9:46-minute mile. It actually felt great, and the evening sun kept disappearing behind clouds, cooling me down a bit.
I felt so good that I decided to run more a bit more. I completed my 8 miles at a 9:46 pace and then slowed to do a cool down. But I started to catch my breath and speed up. Eventually, I was running fast, and my pace was dropping quickly.
In all, I ran 9.38 miles in 1:30:55 - a 9:42 pace:
And that last 1.37 miles... a 9:18 average! So my cool down was actually a speed up :)
It felt awesome to have that kick!
So the lesson learned is to ski all day, eat a huge meal (including lots of desserts), take a short nap and then have a great run. HA!

I am grateful for my resolve to ride my bike to work this morning, despite the downpour.

Muffin Wednesday: Orange
Today's experiment was the orange variation on Plain Muffins. My week has been crazy hectic, and this was quick, easy and used ingredients I already had in the CE2 kitchen - no planning needed.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease muffin pans.
2 c flour
3 t baking powder
1/4 c sugar
1/2 t salt
1 T orange zest
1 c orange juice
1 egg, beaten
1/4 c vegetable oil
1/2 t vanilla
1. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and zest. Make a well in the center.
2. In a smaller bowl, combine orange juice, egg, oil and vanilla.
3. Add liquid to dry ingredients all at once, stirring just until combined.
4. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin, filling about three-quarters full. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
These did come together quick and easy, but they weren't super good. They weren't bad, just nothing special.
We thought they needed butter or honey or something to spruce them up.
Easter family, food, hunt & run
Easter at our house started early with me rearranging a bunch of kitchen cupboards. I woke with a plan, and since Sleeping Beauty was dead to the world, I went to work on some reorganization - my favorite thing :)
Then it was on to second service at Newberg Friends and holiday dinner with Brad's fam at Friendsview.
Man, that food is SOOO good. Seriously. I ate way too much cheesy potatoes.
I had to try all the desserts, so Brad and I shared:
Thanks, Barbara, for the delicious meal!
Because we hadn't eaten enough in Newberg (yeah, right!!), we drove to Ma & Pa's in Tigard for brunch with my family.
Miraculously, the weather was good enough for an outside Easter egg hunt!
Cousin Jessie:
Cousin Kayla: (It looks like she's studying that planting area, but she's really texting. she's 15 :) )
Ma & Pa:
Pa trying out his new DSLR:
Found some:
We were also celebrating Dad's birthday (on Tuesday):
And Aunt Kari's birthday (on Thursday):
After nice family time, it was alone time on the streets of Tigard. Long run in the sun:
Happy (Belated) Easter :)
