Too much glam

"I don't want too much glam," Brad said at my suggestion that he put a sparkly top coat on his toe nails.

But that was after he picked out four different colors (a couple neon!) for a rainbow effect on his toes. Hot pink is OK, but no sparkles. Now we know ;)

That's how we beat the heat Saturday. After a morning run and a trip to the REI return sale (scored an awesome ultra-light tent!), we sequestered ourselves inside and played spa. Linus got his claws trimmed, Brad got a haircut and Brad and I both had mud masks and pedis.

Another steamy run and a birthday lunch

With the temps climbing again, we got up early for a run.

After yesterday's 3-mile tempo run, I took this one slower: 3.15 miles in 29:56, a 9:29 average:

Yesterday, we took Ma & Pa out for their birthdays. (Brad was at work)

We all enjoyed yummy Davidson's lunch and gave them a nature walk (with picnic!) to Opal Creek when the leaves turn.

Should be a fun family outing :)

Finished Go and Come Back, by Joan Abelove. 


I liked the story, which is about two white women who live for a year in a South American village It's written from the perspective of a young villager woman. 


Now I'm out of THS library books! I didn't bring home enough this summer. I guess I'll have to deviate from the alphabetical plan :)

A run before I melt

Since it could reach 100 degrees soon (according to some estimates), I wanted to get in a good run before I melt from heat exhaustion.

I ended up running 3.01 miles in 26:14 - an 8:43 average!

And now I'm experimenting by doing this whole post with my new Nexus 7! I used the WiFi feature on my camera to transfer the pic to my tablet. Used an app to size the pic. And using the Blogger app to write this.

Just trying out the new gadget :)

Eagle Creek (7/30/12)

They finally acquiesced! I've been asking forever for Dad and Eryn to go backpacking with me... and we did!

We left Monday afternoon for Eagle Creek in the Gorge:

It was late by the time we got to 7 1/2 Mile Camp, so we just picked a spot, set up camp, ate dinner (Subway!) and called it a night.

Eryn and I got up Tuesday and went down to the creek to pump water.

Then it was time to wake Sleeping Beauty - he had the fuel to make breakfast. Out came the canister:

Everyone's up - time for hot oatmeal!

After oats, we hung out at the creek for a bit:

Dad spotted this snake on the rock! It was really large - I'd say about as big around as a silver dollar. It woke when I took its picture and very slowly slithered into the water:

Time to pack up and head home. We weren't in a hurry, so lots of pictures along the way:
