Jazzy Pa

If it's Wednesday night, you know where to find Pa: listening to jazz in Portland.

This week, Eryn and I joined him for an evening of dinner and music. We were waiting for our food at Mellow Mushroom at 14th and Flanders when Uncle Ron showed up. Surprise! He lives in Mexico, and we rarely get to hang out.

Everything on the menu looked amazing, so Eryn and I decided to split an avocado hoagie and a Kosmic Karma pizza:

Pa had the soup, and he and Ron both ordered the half-chef salad with blue cheese.

The food was excellent - especially that sandwich. And the prices were reasonable. I will be back!

After stuffing ourselves, we walked next door to Ivories.

Pa's favorite female jazz singer, Rebecca Kilgore, was performing with pianist Dave Frishberg:

They were great! And Pa introduced us to Rebecca while they were taking a break - now we know famous people ;)

Dan Faehnle, guitarist for Pink Martini, showed up in the middle of the set, and we got to meet him, too. Pa knows everyone in the Portland jazz scene!

It was a fun night of food, jazz and good times with family. Thanks for the date night, Pa and Ron :)
