Drenched, Disney and a road trip

Summer vacation recap: Kansas City, Royals game...

This trip was very loose with not many set plans. My only requirement was that we run a race like last year. So we signed up for Drenched, where you get soaked while running a 5K.

Before - nice and dry (except for the humidity, of course)
.
It was at a park near the Kansas City airport. There were park workers hosing us down with tanker trucks, firefighters with a fire hose, two foam stations and a giant slip-and-slide. THEN if we weren't wet enough, there was a big water-balloon fight at the end. We were absolutely drenched :)
We did a quick change in the parking lot, loaded up the Prius and started our road trip across Missouri. The map twins in the back seat:
We were supposed to take the train to St. Louis, but when we discovered that Walt Disney's childhood home and museum were in Marceline, we decided to drive and explore.
The museum was very extensive and impressive! And we learned that Walt's parents lived for a short time in Portland, and his sister married a local and lived in Portland most of her life! Who knew??
A replica of the Disney barn, one of Walt's favorite places:
Dinner in Macon:
Amazing sunset in the stormy clouds:
Eryn took a turn in the front seat, then it was sing-along time :)
We rolled into St. Louis late... bed time.
:)
