What's the perfect date for two bored gals looking for something to do on a Friday night? MELTING POT! I won a gift card at Brad's company Christmas party years ago and still had more than half the prize left. Yay!
First, being very dedicated to fitness and such (and knowing we were about to pig out!), Lindsey and I ran stadiums at the high school to pre-burn some calories. Then we cleaned up and went downtown for some melted cheese and chocolate. Without a reservation, we were offered seats at the bar, where we could order anything except entrees. But really, who needs entrees with all that cheese and chocolate?!
We both ordered salads - spinach mushroom for me and California for Lindsey.
And cheddar cheese fondue:
I thought it was really bitter tasting and not that great. It wasn't bad... just not good. I remember thinking the same last time about the Swiss cheese. I think I'll try the Wisconsin Trio next time.
But then there was dessert. We choose Flaming Turtle: milk chocolate, caramel and chopped pecans, flambéed:
We dipped Rice Krispies Treats, pound cake, brownies, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows and cheesecake. WOW!!!! We ate until we were stuffed... and then ate a little more. Tummies bulging, we waddled to the car and headed back to my place for a DVD.
I'd received Good Luck Chuck weeks and weeks ago from Netflix and didn't know anything about it. So we popped it in and realized that it was the unrated version. It seems to me that usually means they ask a bunch of 14-year-old boys every vulgar idea and punchline they can come up with to fill the movie. I guess it's easier than writing a good story. Since I am not a 14-year-old boy, I usually find it more repulsive than funny (I don't mind a little crude humor, but too much is too much). We watched the movie anyway and discovered that it was mildly pornographic and not particularly funny. The plot wasn't even that great. Anyway... I think that's two thumbs down from us.
Despite the bad movie choice, it was still a great night with a great friend!
